Tecedeiras Reserva Tinto

27.00120.00

A traditional Douro field blend harvested from terraced plots of old vines and then reinforced with selected varietals from newer vines, this Reserva speaks volumes of the region’s capacity to produce great wines of heft and balance. All the Douro’s big six grapes – Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão are present plus countless others that the farmers of this ancient region have traditionally planted in a rich, viticultural tapestry along the riverside terraces. In the glass, first impressions are of a dark, intense Port-like ruby with hints of violet, a key marker for Touriga Nacional. On the nose, nuances of brambly, woodland fruit – blackberries, blueberries and dried plum, fine-tunes with some more savoury notes. On the palate this is a very expressive wine, full-bodied, with solid tannins and hints of toast from the French oak. A floral component is always present, accompanied by delicate notes of black fruit, vanilla and a mineral freshness; the finish is long and persistent. Good aging capacity. Best with roasts, stews and other heartier meat or game dishes, or with more forceful vegetarian dishes such as mushroom risotto or older, riper cheeses.

Description

Manual harvest organized plot-by-plot to ensure picking at the optimum moment. Transport in small boxes to avoid crushing. These grapes come mainly from low-lying old vines planted along broader terracing overlooking the Douro. This Reserva undergoes long maceration and fermentation at 26ºC. It is aged for about 18 months in mixed-age French oak casks and then spends another year in bottle before release. Excellent ageing potential.
