Organic farming. Manual harvesting.Transportation of grapes in small boxes to prevent crushing. Cold soak, fermentation with gentle, daily, manual pump-over. Post-fermentation maceration followed by 18 months ageing in 300-litre French oak casks (Allier and Vosges). No stabilization or filtration (deposits may form in the bottle and so we recommend decanting).
Covela Reserva Tinto
As we no longer produce red wines at Covela, the remaining stocks of Reserva Tinto and Colheita Seleccionada Tinto are increasingly rare. Made from a blend of Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from vines planted on Covela’s granite terraces at low altitude over the Douro River, in the southeastern corner of the Demarcated Region of Vinhos Verdes, these wines are truly unique. Dark garnet in color, they are lighter wines than the reds from the neighbouring Douro demarcation. They also tend to show more freshness and an elegance that becomes more evident with the passing of the years, and luckily they also have an amazing capacity to age well. Covela practices organic farming and is certified by KIWA-Sativa.
