Covela Branco, formerly known as Escolha Branco, has traditionally been Covela’s calling card. A characterful blend of Avesso (the main grape at Covela and in the surrounding sub-region of Baião), Chardonnay and a couple of other grapes, which our winemaker Rui Cunha refers to as his “condiments.” Rui has been linked to the Covela project since 1990 and has always championed this unique wine: it is complex, though its structure does not stem from the use of barrels, but rather from the synthesis of this unusual blend fermented and aged in stainless steel vats after some skin maceration and with occasional batonnage. The freshness of Avesso complements perfectly the voluptuousness of the chardonnay and the other international grape varieties to produce this fascinating white. Covela practices organic farming and is certified by KIWA-Sativa. This wine is vegan.
